1. Switzerland
Many cultures are present in Switzerland due to its geographical position in the middle of Europe, the high percentage of foreign people (20 %), the four official languages that are spoken (German, French, Italian and Rätoromanisch) as well as due to its intensive and export oriented economy.
Switzerland is located near the Northern borders of the alps. Big areas of the landscape are characterised by mountains of middle and great height. Numerous lakes decorate most of the middle of the land. Berne is the capital city, but Zurich with about 450'000 inhabitants is the most biggest town in Switzerland.
The government of Switzerland is not headed by a President, but organised by the „Bundesrat”. The direct democracy is typically for Switzerland, which means, that its inhabitants are having the most powerful instrument for direct influencing political matters by voting.
Switzerland has about 7,5 Mio. inhabitants.
The gross inland national product per inhabitant is USD 52’000/year.
2. The Unterland of Zurich
The Unterland where the Rotary Club Dielsdorf is located is lying between the South of the German Black Woods and the Swiss cities Zurich and Winterthur. This territory comprises of 44 communities. About 160'000 people life here. The life and work balance is very easy to handle as living out in the green is combined with short ways to get to work.
The territory mostly shows hills, partly with woods. Intensive zones of agriculture are changing with zones of industry. This makes the territory attractive. In addition it is very close to the city of Zurich, offering a generous cultural life. Perfectly organised public transporting allow comfortable travelling without car. The airport of Zurich is an international hub and also located in the Unterland.
3. RC Dielsdorf
The Rotary Club Dielsdorf was founded in 1978.
The Fagnion shows the historic village Regensberg.
About 45 members of different age and working in diverse professions participate in the club life. The mix of the economy in the Unterland is explained by the near located airport, the zones of industry and of agriculture. It is represented by the numerous activities of the Rotary members and makes the club life so interesting. The long list of their represented professions comprises Farmer, Artist, Flight Captain, CEO, Building Contractor, Bank Manager, Doctor, IT Specialist, Baker and more. The sizes of the represented companies vary from the employment of only a few employees up to large public listed companies.
The club life profits from this variety and can be described as friendly, honest and pragmatic.
A long-term friendship is connecting the Swiss RC Dielsdorf with the German RC Schrobenhausen-Aichach which is located in Bayern. This way the transnational exchange of rotary oriented ideas is maintained.
The members of the RC Dielsdorf support the exchange of students in both directions and like to motivate the youth to enrich their experiences in life.
